The ECO committee was set up to engage children in becoming aware of the need to become more eco friendly. Representatives are taken from each year group and they meet monthly to discuss how the school can improve its ECO footprint. Examples of this are:
Seeing how putting up bird feeders in the school grounds, encouraged more bird life in and about the field borders.
During a conserve energy week children encouraged and reminded others to switch off computers, lights and smartboards when not in use - which resulted in a reduction in energy use. Now children are much better at reminding each other and adults to switch off.
Another activity the ECO committee manage is the annual Travel Smart challenge, where classes compete to see which class is the most ECO friendly when it comes to travelling to school. This encourages and stimulates a change in behaviour for children wanting to come to school in a more ECO friendly way.
We are currently in the process of re-applying for Green Flag status which acknowledges the school as an ECO school. Our final challenge is to plan and carry out a litter pick to improve the school grounds involving the whole school .
