Year 2 Residential

Each year Y2 go on an over night residential to Lea Green. This is a fantastic experience for the children and one they will never forget. All Year 2 children are actively encouraged to go, as we are an inclusive school. Lea Green are fantastic at accommodating dietary requirements and supporting children with special educational needs. Keep a watchful eye here for key information as it is released throughout the year.

Curriculum

The curriculum runs on a 2 year cycle meaning all of the year 1 and 2 objectives are covered over the two years that children are in the y1/2 department.

Reading

We want all our children to have a love of reading. Not only do we use Little Wandle phonics, we also use the Little Wandle reading programme too.  Children read a decodable book within a group three times a week in school before they then take that book home. By the time the book goes home children should be able to read at least 95% of the words on sight, reading with prosody and a high level of comprehension.

Once children have completed the Little Wandle programme they are able to select their own reading book and can change this as often as they want. They will take part in Fred's Reading three times a week. They will read a range of material within these reading sessions.

To encourage children to read we have a 'Read-a-Rainbow' challenge in place, with children moving through the rainbow coloured book marks for every 25 times they read at home.

Children are also encouraged to take home a book to share (previously known as a library book) and again they can change this as often as they want to.
