WORLD BOOK DAY HOMEWORK - due in Tuesday 28th February 2023
Over half term, please research a topic of your choice; for example, Ancient Egypt, pets, foods of the world, Queen Victoria, global warming, London - whatever makes you excited. The information will be used on WBD to create a mini book of facts about your chosen topic. Happy researching :)
DON'T FORGET TO RECORD YOUR MASKED READER VIDEO AND SEND IT TO THE DEPARTMENT EMAIL BY 28th FEB. See the recent letter about reading for details.
Curriculum Information
Below is the curriculum overview for Y5/6, including all the subjects we topic throughout the two-year cycle.
Curriculum expectations
Below are the end-of-year expectations for children in Year 5 and 6 in Maths, Reading and Writing. These are what an expected-ability child should be able to do by the end of each year group.
Reading
At Scargill we want to ensure all children have a love of reading. ERIS (Everyone Reads In Scargill) takes place daily, shared reading happens twice a week and children have plenty of opportunity to read for pleasure.
All children have a reading record which parents are expected to complete each time their child reads at home. Below is a link to recommended reads for Y5 and Y6.
Happy reading!
School Trips & Visitors
We have many exciting trips and visits planned in Y5 & 6, including the Isle of Wight residential which takes place from 5th-9th June 2023 this year. See below for the first information letter.
Y5/6 Swimming
So that we can fully implement our curriculum and that all children can achieve the end of KS2 swimming expectation, each class will be swimming for 10 weeks during this year.
Merlin class will be attending weekly school swimming lessons on Wednesday afternoon starting on the 21st September for 10 weeks.
Owl class will be swimming for 10 weeks on Wednesday afternoons from January 18th 2023.
